Kavule-based political party, the National Unity Platform (NUP), has had three consecutive busy weeks as its members thronged the party offices to collect expression of interest forms since the exercise was launched. Party members from various parts of the country flocked in to pick up the forms.

A week earlier, NUP held a closed-door delegates’ conference during which it elected its top leaders. This sparked public debate, with many Ugandans questioning the credibility of the process since no journalists were allowed to attend the conference.

NUP first participated in elective politics in 2021, making significant gains in Buganda and Busoga. In Buganda alone, not a single government minister returned to Parliament, including the Vice President. Many of the party’s critics downplayed this achievement, dismissing it as merely a political wave.
