The Ugandan community in South Africa is deeply saddened by the death of Seka Siraje Lukwago, affectionately known as Bidagala, who passed away peacefully at his home in Hillbrow on Friday, June 21, 2025. Having resided in South Africafor28years,Mr.Lukwagowas a widely recognized and cherished figure within the expatriate community, known for his enduring presence and benevolent spirit.

Throughout his later years, Mr. Lukwago bravely contended with significant health challenges, necessit a ting fr equen t hospitalizations and treatments at various medical facilities, including therenownedSteveBikoAcademic Hospital in Pretoria. Despite these ongoing struggles, he maintained a dignified and respected demeanor, never failing to connect with those

around him. He was particularly celebrated for his invaluable assistance to countless fellow Ugandans, especially newcomers who arrived in South Africa seeking guidance and support. His selfless efforts helped many navigate the initial difficulties of settling in a new country, earning him immense gratitude and respect.

Following his untimely passing, the community rallied to ensure h i s wishes were honored. Arrangements were swiftly and carefully made to repatriate his remains to his cherished homeland. Mr. Lukwago’s body was transported back to Uganda on Tuesday, June 25, embarking on its final journey home. He was laid to rest on the very same day, in a solemn ceremony at Mukoko-Kisanje in Masaka,

surrounded by family and friends.

Seka Siraje Lukwago is survived by his beloved widow, who continues to reside in South Africa, facing this profound loss. In this period of mourning and remembrance, the community is making a heartfelt appeal to anyone who may have owed the late Seka Siraje Lukwago (Bidagala) any money or possessions. We would like to ask these individuals to come forward and visit our community office. This crucial step will allow us to collect all outstanding belongings and funds diligently, ensuring they are appropriately and respectfully returned to his grieving family, thereby honoring his legacy and supporting those he left behind.
