Kampala, Uganda — Police have arrested Mr. Issa Sekito, the acting chairperson of the Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA), as investigations intensify into allegations of incitement and assault on police officers.
According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, Sekito was apprehended on Thursday to assist in ongoing inquiries. “The suspect is currently detained as we continue with our investigations. Once his statement is obtained, further legal steps will be taken,” Owoyesigyire said in a statement.
Police revealed that thirteen other individuals were also arrested on Wednesday for their alleged involvement in violent acts and attacks on officers performing official duties. The case file has since been forwarded to the Resident State Attorney for review and further guidance.
Owoyesigyire urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid activities that could incite unrest or disrupt business operations in Kampala’s central business district.
He further emphasized that law enforcement officers will continue maintaining a heightened presence across the city to ensure peace, prevent unlawful actions, and safeguard public order.
