High drama unfolded at the Makindye Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday when a visibly frail socialite, Bryan White, real name Brian Kirumira, was wheeled into the Chief Magistrate’s chambers to answer grave criminal charges linked to the death of a 25-year-old woman at his home. Brian White appears in court and is charged with murder in connection to this case.
Police and prosecution records indicate that Kirumira faces charges of human sacrifice and manslaughter, accusations that have shocked the nation and sparked intense scrutiny since news of the woman’s mysterious death emerged earlier this month.
But the biggest twist came when Chief Magistrate Sarah Basemera abruptly ordered a total media blackout, directing all journalists to leave and instructing court officers to lock the doors behind her. Only Kirumira, a select group of police officers, and the deceased’s father were allowed inside the chambers.
The move left reporters stunned in the corridor, questioning the rare level of secrecy surrounding one of the country’s most closely watched criminal cases.
Sources indicate that during the closed-door session, prosecutors formally read the charges to Kirumira, who appeared weak and uneasy in his wheelchair. After the brief proceedings, the Chief Magistrate further remanded him until 18 December.
Kirumira is jointly accused with his wife, Daisy Nalunga, as well as Daphine Abaho, Naava Nakato, and Joyce Irene Nambalirwa, who appeared before Grade One Magistrate Teddy Nakawuki at the same court last week.
