Eight weeks have now passed since the presidential campaigns began. Kyagulanyi, the epicentre of Uganda’s politics, has been in West Nile where he received a heroic welcome. According to the programme, he will spend next week in Buganda, his home region, beginning with Kawempe, one of the five divisions that make up Kampala City. Residents of Kawempe have already declared Monday a public holiday in anticipation of his visit. Indeed, Kyagulanyi is coming back to Buganda, and with his arrival imminent, the excitement is palpable.

Kawempe Division, which hosts the NUP headquarters, says it will show that “our president is home.” Explaining why Monday has been declared a public holiday, leaders note that Kawempe is the home of NUP and the center of the revolutionary struggle. Many residents live under extremely difficult conditions, high levels of poverty, poor housing, lack of electricity and water, poorly equipped schools, shortages of medicines in the few available health facilities, and roads full of potholes. Many people live in ghettos (informal settlements). “These are the people our president primarily represents, and they are eager to hear from their leader, son, and commander-in-chief of the revolution,” said Dr. Shamim Nambassa, who is also running for L.C.5 Councillor in Kawempe Division. Once again, Kyagulanyi is making his return to Buganda to address these critical issues.

The following day, Kyagulanyi will be in Mukono, and he will conclude the week in Masaka on the 29th. Masaka presents a complex political situation, as all its MPs were elected on the NUP ticket in the last election but later formed their own party, DF, creating uncertainty for NUP in the region. As Kyagulanyi is coming back to Buganda, he aims to try and turn the tide in Masaka.

The Pearl of Africa News will bring you all the updates from Kyagulanyi’s visit to the area. Stay tuned for all the latest, as the leader is once again returning to Buganda.
