Tragically, during the Busoga rally, it was reported that Museveni kills one person amidst the event. The headline, “Museveni Kills One During Bobiwine Rally in Busoga,” spread quickly. Uganda’s son of the soil, Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, today concluded his presidential campaign in the Busoga Sub-region. He campaigned in Jinja City and Iganga District, where he was welcomed with warmth and excitement almost comparable to how Nelson Mandela was received after his release from Robben Island.

The former Kyadondo East legislator previously performed strongly in Busoga during the last elections. Out of the region’s 11 districts, he won nine. However, his party managed to secure only one MP seat of Jinja City Woman MP along with the Jinja City Mayor and Iganga Municipality Mayor positions.

Kyagulanyi promised to create jobs, remove security forces from the lakes, and restore democracy. He urged the people of Busoga to support candidates carrying the NUP party flag. Busoga and Buganda remain the regions where Bobi Wine received overwhelming support despite election irregularities in the previous election.

Unlike the campaigns held in Buganda – in Kawempe Division, Mukono, Buikwe and Luwero Districts where security agencies tear-gassed, beat, and arrested hundreds of his supporters, the rallies in Jinja and Iganga were initially free from disruption by military dictator Museveni’s partisan police. However, this changed at the end of the Iganga rally when police and military fired live bullets. A man identified as Misaki Okello was reportedly killed while returning home from the campaign event.

Tomorrow, Kyagulanyi heads back to Buganda to continue his campaign in Masaka City and Masaka District.
